If I turn my lights off for this hour, it will not be to save the earth, it will be to save me money. These attempts are quite futile in the fact that there are millions of people that won’t change. The earth will still head on a downward spiral. Resources will run out, car companies will continue to postpone the sales of electric cars, the ice will still be melting.
Realize that you are not preventing disaster, only postponing it. Which is fine with me. I have changed to CFLs to reduce usage — but mainly to save money.
I don’t even like having the lights on generally. But I have a refrigerator, a mini-fridge, a laptop, a desktop with two monitors, 2 TVs, and more that are used regularly, and I’m going to enjoy all of it until the day I die.

This is exactly how I feel, and if that makes me selfish, I don’t really give a shit.
